A day in the life of Global Talent Agency candidate: Support at every stage of the process

Imagine landing the perfect job, in the country of your dreams … that’s what happened for Julian Deabanico from the Philippines this year.

In this blog, we showcase Julian’s journey, a highly-skilled, global talent who recently landed his dream occupational therapy job in Australia after following the Global Talent Agency Client Success Framework, our proven evidence-based recruitment method.

“It’s been an exciting journey for me. It is a dream come true,” says Julian. “I’m now working with Everyday Independence, in western Sydney, as an occupational therapist thanks to GTA.”

Dream come true for Global Talent Agency candidates

Julian started the job-hunting process and paperwork to come to Australia 2-3 years ago after he holidayed here. But the covid pandemic made it difficult to navigate the process on his own.

“I started working with GTA in October 2021, after being referred by a friend, and I moved to Australia in February 2022 to start my new job and life here,” he says.

In only a few short months, Julian’s dream came true and he was sitting on a plane destined for Australia and his new job.

But it wasn’t until he started working with GTA that Julian realised just how much value an international recruitment specialist, like GTA, could be to streamline the process.

“Before working with GTA, I was trying to do everything myself, searching Seek, answering selection criteria and sending applications, which is very tedious,” Julian says. “Not every employer comes back to you and there are hundreds of other people applying for the same job. GTA made the whole process easy and straight-forward, and saved me a lot of time.”

At Global Talent Agency, we follow our Candidate Success Framework to help global talent realise their employment goals and dreams. This is how we worked with Julian.

1. Eligibility assessment

Initially, Global Talent Agency set up a meeting with Julian to get to know him as a person and candidate. When we meet with our candidate clients in the beginning, our aim is to understand their goals, employment dreams, skills and qualifications so we can place them in the best possible role with a highly reputable Australian employer.

“The GTA team was professional and very good at what they do,” says Julian.

2. Interview preparation

Julian then had an interview with international talent acquisition and recruitment specialist, Global Talent Agency’s Chief Talent Officer, Amit Thapa, to map out a strategy for his relocation and employment in Australia.

“Amit outlined the process and what to expect, guiding me at every step. Throughout the process, GTA was always very prompt with messages, replies and updates via emails,” he says.

3. Sourcing the best-fit jobs

When you don’t work with a specialist recruiter, such as GTA, the onus falls on the candidate to research the job market, find roles that suit your skillset, find employers of choice, and apply for multiple positions. You may also run the risk of landing a job which is not aligned with your skills and personal interests.

However, at GTA, we support our candidates by doing this for them to make sure they feel confident and have peace of mind when it comes to the interview process. We use an evidence-based, data-driven approach to matching talent with employers, to maximise the chances of a person settling into their role and being happy in the long term.

“GTA made the process very simple for me. Beforehand, I had sent my qualifications and experience as an occupational therapist to the team and after that, GTA sent me an online assessment to test my skills, aptitude and behaviour in the workplace,” Julian says.

At Global Talent Agency, we find the best-fit jobs for each candidate, sending them only quality jobs from reputable employers.

“GTA sent me two high-quality employers with openings for roles that were suitable for me. It was very personalised to my skills and goals. I felt assured that GTA works with reputable employers where there is room for growth, benefits and other opportunities,” he says.

4. Interview process and meeting the employer

As part of our commitment to each candidate, the Global Talent Agency team also sends information about the employer and their values to candidates so they are well-prepared.

“GTA sent me information about the possible interview questions, and then set up a mock interview for me. I had to practise and learn more about working in Australia and workplace relations. GTA gave me confidence and prepared me so I was able to answer all of the questions from the employer.

5. Immigration and visa process

“When GTA let me know I was the successful candidate and I accepted the job, everyone in my house was so excited! They then sent me the contract and everything moved quickly from there.

“As soon as the contract was signed, GTA immediately assigned an immigration specialist from The Migration Agency to support me. I had to submit documents in a certain time, and the rest was taken care of. When my visa came through, the team called me to let me know the news personally, and sent me an email to confirm. I was very happy!”

6. Relocation and onboarding process

The whole process happened so quickly and I moved to Australia in February 2022. Sydney was the city I had been aiming for and I now live in Sydney, only a 25-minute drive from my work,” he says.

“Before boarding my flight, GTA sent me a list of requirements that I needed to get into Australia and what to do when I arrived, so I could be prepared. Since arriving here, I have been spending time with my family in Australia and also getting to know my local area. Before starting my new job, I had to make sure I had an Australian bank account, phone number and tax file number, along with some paperwork required for the position. GTA has helped me with everything I needed to settle into Australia and start work.”

7. Settling into the community

Relocating and working in a foreign country is a big change and for Julian, this was the first time travelling on his own and moving to a new country.

“I’ve moved more than 1000 miles from home, so it’s scary but also exciting too. I’m lucky to live with my relatives here and I keep in contact with my family back home,” he says. “I have started to settle into the community and I have a morning routine so it’s easy when I start work,” he says. “GTA was there for me throughout the whole process and was always available for me when I had questions.”
